During this visit, we are going to contact specific parks and relevant government departments in Hainan to check out the possibilities of registering in Hainan.” Gao also said that Bayer, as well as 30 other medical enterprises were keen to know the development of traditional Chinese medicine in the Hainan Free Trade Port. “Policies regarding the medical industry in Hainan are relatively competitive in the market. EUCCC healthcare enterprises paid close attention to the policies and measures implemented in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone. According to the Administration for Urgent Clinical Need to Import Drugs in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone (Hainan Free Trade Port), which was released in June, 2020, medical equipment with an urgent need to be imported, with real world clinical data generated from Boao Lecheng in accordance with the requirements of medical device registration in China, is eligible for import product registration application. This policy has undoubtedly attracted the attention of European companies with top drug and medical device research and development.

Hong Jia, the director of regulatory affairs of Siemens medical systems Co., LTD., stated that according to the relevant policies of the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, some medicine and medical equipment which have been approved overseas but have not been listed in China are permitted to come into service in accordance with the regulation. The policy has shifted the attention of medical enterprises from China and abroad to Boao Lecheng. Sun Xiaoyi, the senior director of regulatory clinical and medical affairs of Philips Group (China) agreed that the policy is a positive step, and Philips will also look into whether the Boao Lecheng Pilot Zone can help to introduce products into China from abroad. “We are very optimistic about the future of Hainan. We would like to witness the further development of Hainan's medical tourism industry,” said Hong Jia.
