The Black-faced Spoonbill appeared in Haikou

On the morning of August 6, under the guidance of Feng Erhui, a forestry engineer from the Dongzhai Harbor National Nature Reserve Administration, the reporter saw the two black-faced spoonbills in the Haikou Xiatang Wetland Protection Community.

Black-faced Spoonbill is a large migratory bird with an extremely restricted distribution area and a very small population. It is one of the world's endangered species and is under second-class protection in China. The breeding ground of the Black-faced Spoonbill is located on the Korean Peninsula. It flies to Hainan for wintering in late October and returns to the north in early April of the following year.

About Black-faced Spoonbill 
The black-faced spoonbill has white plumage, and its flat, spoon-shaped mouth is very similar to the Pipa in Chinese musical instruments.
At present, the number of black-faced spoonbills in the global simultaneous survey in 2019 and 2020 is 4,463 and 4,851. Among them, Hainan has 102 and 108 in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
