“Panda Knight” from Kazakhstan donated his rare blood in Hainan again

Ruslan donates his "panda blood" in Hainan during the epidemic period.

On February 20, Hainan Daily issued a message asking for help from Hainan Provincial People’s Hospital that some children with thalassemia had been in danger because the O-type blood in Hainan Province is in short supply, especially the need of "Panda Blood" —O-type RH negative blood is even more urgent, due to the sharp decrease of blood donation in the province affected by the epidemic.

After seeing the information, the “Panda Knight” Ruslan, a young Kazakh man working in Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, came to the Blood Center of Hainan Province and donated his blood for the children in urgent need on February 22.

As a global press officer of Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, Ruslan responsible for editing and operating the WeChat public account of “Invest Hainan”. Since the Spring Festival, Ruslan have translated and edited Hainan’s anti-epidemic information in multiple languages in a timely manner, and contacted domestic and foreign media to send service information of Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development for global investors, to strengthen the confidence of global investors in participating in the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.

Ruslan has been obsessed with Chinese culture since his childhood.

Ruslan was the first foreign talent introduced by Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development. Inspired by the cultural character “Monkey King”, he set out to study in China when he was young. 

In 2009, the 16-year-old Ruslan came to Hainan, China from his hometown of Kazakhstan with his love for Chinese culture and a longing for the sea. After studying Chinese for two years, he studied business management at Hainan University. In 2015, Ruslan went to Beijing Science and Technology University for a master's degree.

He knew by chance that he had a very rare blood type—the RH-negative type, known as "Panda Blood" in China. It was difficult for patients with this blood type to find the blood source. 

With the simplest wish to help others, this young kazakh man decided to donate his blood for free to help those in need since he was studying at Hainan University in 2009, and had participated in free blood donation twice a year.

Ruslan donated more than 6,000 milliliters of his rare blood so far.

Until now, Ruslan donated more than 6,000 milliliters of his rare blood, more than the total body blood of an adult. Since his blood is as rare as panda, he was also called "Panda Knight" in China.

As an important hub of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Hainan is under the construction of a pilot free trade zone and a free trade port with Chinese characteristics. Out of his deep affection for Hainan, Ruslan was admitted to a full-time employee of Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development after he graduated with a master degree. He worked with a group of international students returning from the United States, Russia, Germany, France, Australia, Japan and other countries to provide high-end services to international companies, and contribute youth and strength to the construction of the Hainan free trade port.

As an important hub of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Hainan is under the construction of a pilot free trade zone and a free trade port.
