Govt Work Report | Hainan to implement garbage classification in 4 cities

On January 16, reporters of hinews.cn learned from the third session of the Sixth Hainan Provincial People's Congress that Hainan will strengthen six special projects of environmental improvement in 2020 to fight for the blue sky, including basically eliminating poor-quality Class V wells, launching marine sanitation pilot zones, implementing garbage classification in 4 prefecture-level cities, and constructing 4 new waste incineration power plants.

In 2019, the six special projects of environmental improvement have been underway, with the focus on controlling motor vehicle emissions, fireworks and firecrackers, and the pollution of betel nut processing, in order to do a good job in preventing and controlling air pollution. And Hainan has strengthened the pollution control of inland rivers and lakes in the cities and towns, and water quality compliance rate of key water bodies increased by 3.4 percentage points.

In 2020, Hainan will continue to implement the projects of air pollution control to further improve the air quality; basically eliminate poor-quality Class V wells to improve the coverage and utilization of urban and rural sewage treatment facilities; push forward the construction of port and shore power facilities for a green shipping; and implement garbage classification in 4 prefecture-level cities to improve the rural domestic garbage transfer system.
