South China's Hainan province held a special job fair for overseas talents on Dec 18, with 54 companies from the island offering 723 positions. It was the first fair hosted with a focus on connecting foreign talents with companies since the island became a province and a special economic zone in 1988. Twenty-one Hainan-based institutions, foreign-funded enterprises, private enterprises, and social organizations attended the fair and communicated with job seekers comprised of international students and foreign talents in the province, while 33 enterprises issued their recruitment plans online for resume submissions.

A total of 72 language-related jobs were offered at the fair, accounting for nearly 10 percent of all the job vacancies. The other 651 jobs covered 12 key industries of Hainan, including medical care, modern financial services, and education. More than 400 overseas students and foreign talents attended the fair, most of whom held bachelor degrees or above. According to statistics, the on-site employers received a total of 268 resumes, while 207 resumes were submitted online as of mid-afternoon on Dec 18. The employers that received the most resumes were mainly in the cultural tourism industry, as well as the medical and health industry. Over the past year, Hainan province has steadily pushed forward the reform of foreign talent management, with a special service mechanism taking shape. As of November of this year, the province had a total of nearly 1.4 million overseas talents.
