Hebert Vasquez, 42, a postdoctoral fellow from El Salvador, fell in love with a Chinese girl Tong Taohui when he was pursuing his doctor's degree in Japan in 2011. After his graduation in 2016, Hebert made his decision to come to China. China and El Salvador established diplomatic relations on Aug. 21, 2018. "Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, my father has had so many expectations on his future life with his son. He says the two countries will develop more cooperation, thus we are going to have more chances", said Tong. After Tong and her parents visited El Salvador in November, she became obsessed with the coffee culture of El Salvador. Back to home, Tong set up a workshop for coffee roasting. Hebert has become the lead roaster. They named their shop as "Huosa" in Chinese, which refers to the land of Volcano, El Salvador. They hope the shop will promote a better understanding for Chinese people of the country. Hebert had never imagined his deep connection with China. Their coffee shop Huosa has made its reputation among coffee enthusiasts in Hainan, at the same time, he has passed his postdoc dissertation defense and become the first foreign post doctor of Hainan University. "I came to China for my love, however afterwards I saw abundant choices and chances, which made me more determined to stay here. Hopefully one day I can take back all my experiences here to my home," said Hebert. (Xinhua)
